How It Started
In the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur, back in 2016, a passionate bookworm named Rachel Ang embarked on a bookish adventure. Armed with only a passion for reading and a selection of 100 books, she founded Books n Bobs.ย
The journey into bookselling wasnโt an easy path for Rachel. First of all, she has no experience nor any knowledge of bookselling. On top of that, having been unemployed for some time, she had very limited capital to buy stock and needed some income to pay bills quickly.
Little did she know that her humble endeavor would blossom into the largest online secondhand bookstore in the country.
Just like other bookworms and fellow book hoarders, Rachel struggled to buy all the books she wanted with her limited resources. Given the high price of new books, readers are less willing to try out new and unknown books/authors. Buying pre-loved books becomes the best solution and the way forward.ย
Rachel is also committed to giving pre-loved books a new life, passing them from one reader to another, allowing the books to be read and cherished over and over again. That is why Books n Bobs specializes in pre-loved books, which make up more than 90% of our stock.
Our Mission
At Books n Bobs, weโre more than just an online secondhand bookstore. Weโre passionate about books and devoted to spreading the joy of reading. Hereโs why weโre enthusiastic about pre-loved books:
- Sustainability: By selling secondhand books, BnB is promoting a sustainable reading lifestyle by reducing the number of books getting pulped and promoting the reuse of books.
- Affordability: BnB is providing affordable books to customers who may not be able to afford new books. It also allows readers to read more by spending less.
- Serendipity: Thereโs magic in stumbling upon a forgotten gemโa novel that waltzes into your heart, leaving footprints on your soul. Our collection is a haven for serendipitous discoveries.
Our Brave Leap
Our first physical bookshop opened its doors in Dec 2022. Up until that point, Books n Bobs has always been a fully online bookstore.
The first shop is located in GMBB in the heart of the city, Bukit Bintang. One year later, we opened our second physical bookshop in Taman Desa in November 2023.
Both the bookshops run on a self-service concept. That means they are unmanned and rely on an honesty system. Pick your books and pay by QR or insert cash into the cash box.

Since we carry both new and secondhand books, we have included the condition of every book on their product page. All books are carefully checked and graded according to our internal guidelines. They are graded into 5 conditions, namely Brand New, Like New, Very Good, Good, and Acceptable. For a description of the book conditions, please refer to the FAQ section (a link is available at the bottom of each page).ย
