Singapore was one of the five founding members of ASEAN, together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. The grouping was joined later by Brunei in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, Laos and Myanmar in 1997, and finally, Cambodia in 1999.
