Description

We got gathered to discuss the problems about aging in Asia at the "International Symposium on Aging People in Transition A Comparative Study of Three Cases in Asia: Korea, Taiwan and Japan-" held on November 14 and 15, 1996 in Waseda University, Tokyo.

The meeting was attended by over 50 experts from Korea, Taiwan, Japan and several academic organizations, and discussion was based on papers which had prepared as contributions to meeting. Most of these papers were very interesting and important to understand these countries' situation about aging people in transition. We thought to publish them to bring to the attention of a wider audience who has been concerned for aging problems in Asia. The publication also contains materials which were prepared specially for it, such as the papers relating to some examples of aging people in transition. The contributions of all these individuals are gratefully acknowledged.

Special acknowledgement is also paid to Waseda University's Conference Support Foundation, particularly for the financial support it provided to enable participants from concerned countries to attend and participate in the meeting, and for providing part of the financial support which made this publication possible.
