It is the belief of your authors that with perseverance, considerable effort and the aid of our supporters we have produced a much improved edition of Art Fundamentals. Despite many changes in the recent art scene (changes reflected in the text) we retain our basic tenets regarding aspects of artistic creativity. We still see the design, composition or organization of an artwork as the binding force that makes it legible and compelling. And we think that the elements of art must work in concert under the guidance of certain principles. Therefore, the basic layout of the book remains the same, but we have tried to improve our presentation of 2-D and 3-D (and 4-D) art fundamentals.
This edition recognizes new directions in art and also aims to include a broader range of media and greater representation of works by women, multicultural, and nonwestern artists .
