Description
It was a difficult period for BERJAYA in 1975-76 when USNO was in power because of the tremendous pressure applied by USNO on BERJAYA leaders and supporters. USNO threatened and intimidated BERJAYA members and sacked BERJAYA sympathisers from the public service to try to demoralise and disintegrate the party. The tactics applied by USNO to terrorise BERJAYA members and cripple the party machinery are still fresh in the minds of our people. Those who refused to support USNO and carry out its instructions and directives were ruthlessly dealt with and many lost their rightful employment and suffered together with their families. However, the people rallied behind BERJAYA during the 1976 general elections and threw USNO out of power and elected BERJAYA to regain their democratic rights, basic freedoms and a hope for social and economic advancement.
