Description

Bruce Dawe's poetry has won him increasing recognition in recent years and an audience wider and more enthusiastic than that accorded most of our younger poets.
His fourth book, Beyond the Subdivisions, reveals that characteristic humour, sense of involvement and compassion, expressed in the same clear and individual tone of voice which has, from the first, marked this poet's work.
Born in Geelong in 1930, Bruce Dawe left school at sixteen and worked variously as farm-hand, mill-hand, copy-boy, gardener and recently completed nine years' service with the RAAF. He also graduated recently from the University of Queensland. He is married with three children. His poems have appeared in Meanjin, Quadrant, The Bulletin, Overland and other
Australian journals, and he is represented in many anthologies. His second book, A Need of Similar Name, won the Myer Poetry Prize for 1966, and in 1967 Bruce Dawe was awarded the $5,000 Ampol Arts Award for Creative Literature. His third book, An Eye for a Tooth, won the Myer Poetry Prize for 1969.
