Description
This new edition replaces Murphy and Beaumont's Evidence: Materials for Discussion and has been substantially revised by the present author. The fictional cases featured in previous editions have been removed and a more traditional approach has now been adopted. Primarily designed for use by students reading evidence at undergraduate level, the book may be used independently or in addition to its sister publication, A Practical Approach to Evidence.
The book consists of mainly English cases and statutes together with extracts from a number of articles by eminent authors in the field of evidence. The text is linked with notes and short questions and each chapter concludes with longer and more challenging questions. It has been thoroughly updated to include the most recent cases and the provisions of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill 1993 and also includes treatment of all the major syllabus areas.
Contents Include: Burden and Standard of Proof; Presumptions, Competence and Compellability: The Course of the Trial; Corroboration; Hearsay; Confessions; Character Evidence; Opinion Evidence; Public Policy and Privilege; Previous Judgments as Evidence.
