Description

God's incarnation in Jesus clearly demonstrates his interest in the world, in flesh and blood, and everything which belongs to human life. God does not merely ex- press his opinion about human affairs-he claims do- minion over all the things of the world. He commands his disciples to advance to the ends of the earth, and he equips them with special abilities and powers for the mission.

But God's reality and human involvement are again and again made questionable by Christians' weakness and silence. The world is waiting for proof of God's existence in the lives and actions of those who call them- selves his children. Our God, who has proclaimed himself the Savior of men, wants to prove his reality through the things which he does in this world.

This fact was self-evident to the first Christians. They knew no difference between holiday and everyday. They demonstrated this by making the first day of the week, then a working day, their special day for worship meetings. They understood their Lord's commission to evangelize the world to mean not only invasions of unknown lands but sanctification of all areas of human life. If they met a sick person, they did not leave him only to the doctor. They knew that they were called to heal. In their groups they dealt with problems which are also urgent today-racial integration, emancipation, and consideration for less gifted and poor members. They expected God's power to be seen in all areas of their world through their words and deeds. The signs and wonders which accompanied them were the effects, and proofs, of God's reality.
