Moorcroft Pottery has a long and unbroken record of international acclaim, with few potteries able to match it for quality, variety and enduring beauty. This, along with its fascinating history, is what gives it today its unrivalled appeal to collectors.Most of the pottery produced by the factory has been characterised by its instantly recognisable tube-lining, a method which gives the designs a clarity and intensity which can be achieved in no other way. The brilliance of the colours is enhanced by the method of firing thepottery twice. The first firing blends the handpainted colours with theclay body of the pot while the second firing is with transparent glaze,applied on top of the colours. This method demands great skill andthe complex method of production has meant that from the outset,Moorcroft pottery has been a luxury item and very distinctive frompottery produced by other, less time-consuming methods.Though the method of production has remained largely the same, response to changes in taste and fashion has always been swift, but at the same time Moorcroft has managed to remain subtle and refined, avoiding extremes and maintaining the highest standards of production and presentation.
