Description

The primary aim of a course in typewriting is to teach students to typewrite rapidly and accurately. The surest and quickest way to achieve this aim, results of experimental stud ies show, is to stress and develop the seven basic techniques of typewriting. These seven basic techniques are: right stroking; manipu lating the shift key, carriage return, and other operative parts correctly; relaxed shoulder and arm muscles; stroking action that is centered in the fingers, not in the hands and arms; hold ing the eyes on the copy; right mind-set; and reading the copy correctly. A feature of COLLEGE TYPEWRITING, Inten sive Course, is the forceful and unique way in which it develops these seven basic techniques. In teaching right stroking, for example, the book tells the student how to move his finger to a particular key, how to strike and release it, and what to do with the idle fingers. Vivid illustrations give clear meaning to the explana tions. Then the student is given special drills to practice the right stroke. Thereafter, planned reviews occur throughout the book to develop further and to perfect the correct stroking pat tern. Each of the basic techniques of typewrit ing is developed in the same effective way. Each, it is important to remember, is empha sized again and again until it is solidly woven into the typewriting pattern of the student.
