Description

This publication is indeed a showcase of how far KLIA has come since its inauguration 10 short years ago. That this major piece of architecture and infrastructure was conceived and executed is testament to the government's dedication towards enhancing and expanding Malaysia's connectivity to the outside world in the 21st century.

In the decade of its operations, the number of passengers handled by KLIA has increased from under 7 million to more than 26 million today with cargo handling also quadrupling over the same decade. The impressive capacity that KLIA boasts, including the ability to handle the largest jetliners, will also be expanded in line with the masterplan which anticipates future travel growth demands, eventually being able to handle 100 million passengers annually.

KLIA has achieved much in terms of facilitating growth by enabling effective transportation of people, goods and services as well as firmly integrating Malaysia into the global aviation network, acting as Malaysia's link to the wider world. In recent years, KLIA has offered an increasingly wider range of facilities and services while also creating employment and other opportunities. The eventual emergence of an airport city strategically linked to other major cities would indeed mark the culmination of the KLIA development masterplan.

Malaysia can be proud of the way KLIA has introduced visitors to Malaysia and created a lasting first impression of modernity and locality, combining effortlessly in the buildings and physical spaces of the airport as well as in terms of the goods and services offered. Therefore, while there has been much to be proud of KLIA's first decade, there is much to look forward to in KLIA's next decade and indeed beyond.
