Description
This compendium on the Asia-Pacific economies contains contributions from leading scholars in the world. It is divided into six parts and its twenty-five chapters attempt, somewhat ambitiously, to cover almost all the macroeconomic aspects of the Asia-Pacific economies. It does so in the hope that if a student has a choice to select only one volume to have a reasonably sound knowledge of the Asia-Pacific economies, and if the student comes across this volume, he or she will not be disappointed.
Care has been taken in selecting the readings, so that none of them is overly technical or narrowly theoretical. It is inevitable that in a wide-ranging anthology, the level of analytical rigor will also range widely, yet most of the readings here are characterized by a high level of analytical rigor. All the readings deal with practical issues. The relatively newer issues related to "regionalism" and institutionalism" have not been ignored.
The volume starts with an exposition of regional economic cohesion and dynamism, followed by the process of emergence of the region as the third growth pole of the global economy. It then turns to issues related to trade and foreign investment, followed by an analysis of Asia-Pacific as a trading bloc. Issues related to exchange rate, finance and banking are examined next, followed by macroeconomic and monetary matters. The volume concludes with country studies. ISBN:9780135258415
