Obstetricians-Gynecologists have an ethical duty to be advocates for women's health-care. As a learned profession they have a body of knowledge that includes sexual and reproductive health. They are usually the first professionals that women approach with health problems in this area. They therefore have a duty to provide care based on this knowledge and experience. The knowledge base and the social standing of physicians places them in a position with the potential to influence policies regarding women's health.
