Description
Since I took over the position of the representative of the Konrad- Adenauer-Foundation to Malaysia in July 2002 I have had the opportunity to listen to lectures of Tunku Abdul Aziz on transparency, integrity, accountability, good governance and the fight against corruption on many occasions. Every time, I was deeply impressed by his high quality of argument, his moral principles and ethical standards, his courage to address these very sensitive issues and his inimitably convincing personal way to convey his mission: The absolute necessity to fight corruption in order to create a better human society.
Always after his lectures on good governance and how to fight corruption effectively Tunku has been asked by many people about his paper and other writings and if there was a collection of them to purchase. Unfortunately, there was not.
In June 2003, during the time when the Kuala Lumpur Society for Transparency and Integrity (KLSTI; founded by Tunku) posthumously awarded Tun Dr. Ismail Dato' Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Siew Sin and Tun Ismail Mohamed Ali with the National Integrity Award, Tunku started to talk about stepping down as President of KLSTI. Discussing the prospects of Tunku soon resigning from his post, my good friend S. Hadi Abdullah and myself came to the conclusion that we should ask Tunku to agree to the publication of a collection of his speeches and writings on the fight against corruption.
