Description
Roses are cherished by many gardeners. 15 The flower symbolises numerous events, so this plant has stood the test of time. In fact, roses continue to be popular garden plants.
Fossilised roses found in Europe, Japan and America are reputed to be some 35 million years old, but the very first pictorial evidence we have is a six- petalled flower on a heavily restored fresco at Knossos in Crete, dating back to 1500 ะฒั.
I had never really liked roses when I began my career as a gardener, but, like many things in life, as I became familiar with them my interest slowly grew. Many a plant in the botanical world has its beautiful flowers, perfume and shape, but so often the flowering period is limited. This can be an advantage as, like the seasons, one looks forward to these times.
However, the rose is a plant that produces so many delightful flowers over such a long season, year after year. Whether for display purposes or for picking, this ornamental can produce the goods. Many people shy away from growing roses, assuming that one has to implement major spray and fertiliser programmes to achieve good results. In fact, the rose bush (otherwise known as the bush rose), is an extremely hardy plant which will survive even total neglect. With a little care and attention, these plants can become strong, healthy-looking bushes with attractive blooms.
