In the past few years, the strategy of "green growth" has been looked at as a model for sustainable development around the world, wherein businesses and government both work together to boost economic growth without compromising environmental sustainability. That the term is being bandied about so popularly indicates a maturity and holistic manner in which parties are approaching sustainable development. Years before, the main driver for environmentally conscious policies were driven by fear and obligation that is all changing now that businesses are starting to see green technology as a sector that could not only conserve the environment, but also create wealth, job opportunities, and help secure businesses long-term future. Industry has much to gain from green technology, which is among the fastest growing business of the day.
With that in mind, the inaugural IGEM 2010 conference carried the theme "Green Future: Low Carbon Green Growth", during which experts, policy makers, and business owners from the Asian region and beyond were brought together to share their knowledge and be a part of the GREEN revolution in which the development and deployment of green technology plays a key role.
