Description
The focus of this book is on the many possibilities for new business in the Asian-Pacific Rim, particularly in the 'Four Tigers' (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore), together with four of the new growth economies of ASEAN-Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and The Philippines. Also included is the emerging market of Vietnam, justified by the growing interest from businessmen travelling and investing in the region and the probability that the country will very soon be 'open for business' once more. It is these countries, all too often ignored by Western businessmen, which offer the greatest potential for outsiders to participate in one of the world's most dynamic regions.
In the coming battle for economic supremacy between the Pacific Rim and the new economies of Eastern Europe, there will be no contest. While Eastern Europe has a history of decades of mismanagement, the Asian-Pacific Rim is bursting with entrepreneurs, all of them eager to develop global business ties and with the capital to do so.
There are, however, few common threads between the Pacific Rim countries, either ethnically, politically, sociologically, religiously or geographically, and the people in them speak more that 1,000 languages. How then can businesses capitalise on the potential in this new trading arena which will soon offer a market of more than 80 million new consumers, all hungry for our goods and services?
This book guides the uninitiated through these nine countries in particular detail. Through the judicious use of practical, hands-on advice in the form of "Tiger Tactics', culled from thought-provoking interviews with experienced Pacific pioneers from more than 200 of Britain's top companies, the task of grappling with these new markets will appear less daunting.
