Description

FOR one who has covered and captured the dramatic and pathetic episodes of court proceedings in Malaysia for no fewer than 15 years from the Corner's Court to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Jean Perera murder case certainly overshadows all others in content and compulsive interest.

Jean even from her very impressionable young days commanded special attention. When she grew into her early teens and blossomed out to her adolescence and young womanhood, this attention grew in measured and magnified intensity.

Vocationwise, she was no more than the ordinary school marm. But through her naturally endowed facial beauty and physical charms, she stood tall and statuesquely in any gathering or even a crowd. From the events which followed her marriage to the late lecturer Mr. Sinnappa, it would appear that the union was a most fateful one.

Sinnappa died in a road crash on a most significant day a New Year Day. He was a scholar and sportsman of no mean calibre. His nuptial tie with Jean brought about three beautiful issues and his untimely passing could indeed be taken to be of the most tragic nature - coming, so to say, in the prime of his manhood.

But his most unfortunate passing was instrumental in opening the gateway to a series of dramatic episodes, heightened by Jean's romantic escapade with Karthigesu, followed by her tearaway, searing clandestine attachment with her Sri Lankan lover Dr. Narada Warnasurya and culminating in her tragic death at the hands of Karthigesu.
