Description
Independent and educated Jennie, orphaned at twenty- one and living as a ward of her aunt and uncle in London, falls passionately in love with the dashing Captain Gilchrist. They marry and sail off to Scotland, he to manage an estate, chiefly a sheep farm, which his older half brother owns.
There Jennie hopes to start a school for illiterate children of the poor cottagers. Her romantic dreams and her marriage collapse, however, when she learns of her husband's brutal ways.
She has married an unprincipled man who will stop at nothing to make his fortune.
But Jennie knows how to survive and endure, and another love and a vastly different future beckon.
