Description
THIS book speaks for itself. It has already spoken to good purpose in the first two editions. The author Ronald Rubinstein was a most able member of the legal profession, and his early death was a great loss. He combined a wide knowledge of the law with much good common sense. He always mastered the details of his cases and was an excellent 'man of business'. His very extensive practice brought him into touch with problems of every kind. All this stood him in good stead when he came to write this book. Subject after subject - some of them specialist subjects are treated with the easy style of a master. He picks out the salient points and makes them clear. It is a great boon to have the law thus explained in a way which laymen can understand so long as it is also well understood that it is not wise for any man to attempt to be his own lawyer - and Mr Ronald Rubinstein explained this in his preface to the first edition.
The law does not, however, stand still, and a book of this kind needs revision from time to time to keep it up to date. It is fortunate that a careful and skilled hand has been found to do it. Miss Joan Rubinstein is a niece of the author and a member of his firm. She has brought to the task not only her own high competence but she has also been assisted on special topics by friends who are known masters of their subjects. This edition should prove a worthy successor to the first two editions. I hope it will have equal success.
