Just Gazing: Poems

There is a moment in puja when Amma sits as if in prayer, eyes closed, hands together, in perfect grace. I Wondered about this moment and asked if Amma is praying. Her answer was thoughtful, brief and exquisite: "No, not praying, just gazing." Maintaining Her mystery, yet revealing an explanation so beautiful, I could not ever forget Her answer. So often I have thought about Amma's words and visualized Her gazing inwardly to the nature of our hearts, and outwardly into the worlds that only She knows and sees. To feel the unconditional love that flows so generously from Amma, nurtures the soul. Just as the physical body requires water, air and food, the soul thrives on love. The awakening comes with the realization that Divine Love can be accessed anywhere, not just in Amma's physical presence. God's hand touches everything. The soul feeds on God's touch. To mingle with nature connects the soul to the Divine. That's why moments drinking the beauty of nature can restore us. For me, a day hiking in the mountains is a day spent with God. A nurtured soul moves beyond Happiness into the experience of Joy. This pleasure is available through acts of pure love, through devotion, service and surrender to God. These poems are moments of wonder, drawn from my experiences with Amma, fed by Her Teachings and ever flowing Unconditional Love.
