Description
The main purpose of the second edition, essentially the same as the first, is to present material which will help students learn more efficiently as individuals and will also help them as professional workers in education, psychology, and related fields. In this, as in the previous edition, we have emphasized learning-teaching processes and have bridged the gap between learning and development as separate en-tities through the concept of emergent human abilities. The main variables affecting efficiency of learning in the classroom or in other group settings are treated in detail as are the conditions essential to efficient learning.
Many significant events have occurred since the writing of the first edition: More attention is being given nationally to human learning and abilities, and, a great deal of research has been completed in educational settings as a result of substantial financial support from private foundations and the federal government. Also, innovation has become popular in the schools.
