Description
If there is a single underlying theme to this book it is this: the twin challenges facing Muslims in the post 11 September world. A number of essays deal with the myriad problems within the Ummah (the Muslim community) generated by flaws and fallacies for which Muslims them- selves are largely responsible. At the same time, there are also essays which focus upon the politics of global hegemony emanating from Washington's imperial ambitions and how it impacts upon Muslims worldwide.
There are, of course, other essays too which examine issues related to intercivilisational dialogue both before and after 11 September. Intercivilisational dialogue is a good example of an issue which has been shaped by both the internal dynamics of the Muslim community and the external challenges facing it. Indeed, the 'within' and 'without' dimensions of the realities that Muslims and others have to grapple with run like a continuous thread right through the pages of this book.
