Description
Youth In 1768, Louis XV bought Corsica from the Genovese Republic. A year later, on this small barren island, a child was born who would become the master of France, who would write one of the most important chapters in European history and expand his country to the size of an Empire, while at war with his neighbours for over fifteen years. At the end of his reign, France was very much the same size as Buonaparte had found it just after the French revolution. Yet the shape of Europe was changing under the impulse of the nationalist movements Napoleon had helped to arouse.
