Description
Networking smart is meant to be a provocative idea. The term networking elicits strong feelings, positive and negative; some people swear by it, others swear at it. Smart, too, can go two ways; it can mean intelligent, resourceful, and knowledgeable, or just crafty and cunning.
By combining these two terms, I wish to engage your interest in a powerful idea that goes far beyond the usual definitions and preconceived notions. It's an idea at the heart of excellence in business.
Networking, as I use it here, is the active process of building and managing productive relationships a vast network of personal and organizational relationships.
The process embraces everyone you work with your superiors, peers, team members, subordinates, and many others. The process includes relationships within and between organizational units departments, teams, functions, offices, divisions, sub- sidiaries.
And it includes external ties-relationships with customers, suppliers, competitors, investors, and communities.
Networking smart means building and managing this vast network in intelligent, resourceful, and ethical ways.
