Description
A Midwife-led Model of Care, including models that have and do not have an antenatal component, merits further attention from policy makers in the Ministry of Health. Role development for midwifery should be a key feature and a guiding principle in the policy for contemporary maternity services is that "all pregnant women will need a midwife, and some may need doctors". It is this principle that will further strengthen the midwifery profession and give it the visibility it deserves to the policy makers, obstetricians, and the greater community. The number of obstetricians is less than the necessary requirement in Oman therefore midwives can play an important role if the current partnership with obstetricians is improved.
