Description
It is indeed gratifying that this book has seen seventeen successful editions and is now entering the eighteenth edition with a brand new look. The new edition is in keeping with the tradition of release of new edition at regular intervals, with the objective to match the pace of everchanging subject matter.
The whole book has been updated. It contains extensively revised chapter of "Epidemiology of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases and Conditions", with new matter added to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, obesity, blindness, accidents and injuries. Chapter on Health Programmes in India has been completely updated. Chapter on "Epidemiology of Communicable Diseases" has been updated with addition of new topic like SARS. Health related material on Tenth Five Year Plan has replaced the Ninth Plan.
As India is now a signatory country to the United Nations Millennium Declaration - widely referred to as "Millennium Development Goals", details about this movement, the actual goals, India's base-line, and current position has been incorporated in chapter 21 "Health Care of the Community".
I hope this book will continue to serve not only the medical students for whom it is intended, but also those in allied professions.
I extend my appreciation to Mr. Brij Mohan Bhanot for the great care bestowed in publishing this book.
