Description
Designed to serve as a text for a first course in materials science and engines ing for engineering students, this third edition of Principles of Materials Science and Engineering is an enlarged, updated, and improved version of the second edition. In this edition there are over 280 new or modified problems with numerical answers. Some of the excellent problems from Professor Lew Raber berg, University of Texas, Austin, have been retained as well as some of the excellent suggestions of Professor Patricia Shamamy of Lawrence Technology cal University. New subsections on polyphthalamides and thermoplastic poly urethane elastomers have been added. Enlarged subsections on silicon nitride and silicon carbide structural ceramics and ion implantation in microelec tronic materials have been included. A subsection on new trends and technol ogies in microelectronic microprocessors has also been added because of the major changes that have been taking place in this field in the past years. Other improvements include additional information on the mechanical properties of carbon fibers, some new technical photos and diagrams, and updated data on polymeric materials. New sections on materials selection of plastic and metal- lic materials have also been added because of their importance in engineering designs.
