Description
In dealing with the topic assigned to me, I have decided to approach it from a broad perspective of Public Relations practice in Malaysia, as it has developed until now. I have attempted to identify certain, what I may call, landmarks which represent stages of its development and which have made public relations what it is today.
There is no doubt that public relations is now accepted as a profession, although, perhaps, not at par yet with other long established professions like medicine, engineering and accountancy. But, I believe, it will not be long before this stage is reached when its practitioners will be able to take their rightful place in society. As society's respect and recognition have to be earned, PR practitioners have a duty to strive to achieve them. The path is not at all easy as there are many obstacles to be cleared along the way. In my concluding remarks, I have suggested what the major obstacles are, and how the might possibly be dealt with.
