In the last thirty years the political map of South-East Asia has been largely redrawn (only Thailand remaining un- affected) and what were once the colonies of Western Europe and the United States have all achieved their freedom; the Philippines in 1946, Indonesia in 1948, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in 1955, Malaysia in 1957, and, Singapore in 1963.This book deals with the history of these countries in this period of political change.
