The late Tan Sri Haji Mohamed Noah Omar was a man of many achievements - a true nationalist, a visionary and those who knew him would vouch that he was truly a remarkable man.Throughout his 30 years in the Johor civil service, asSpeaker of the Dewan Rakyat and as permanent chairman of UMNO general assemblies, he had proven that a man can hold an important position and yet keep his wits and integrity about him. Most of all he was alert, far-sighted, compassionate and humorous. A man for all seasons. His motto was "Hasten slowly." He was one of the leading figures during the founding of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). He and his contemporaries, including Dato Onn Jaafar, founded UMNO on May 1, 1946 to fight forindependence. Soon after Merdeka, he became the first Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, the lower house of Parliament from 1959 to 1964. Subsequently, he became President of the Dewan Negara, the upper house of Parliament, from 1968 to 1970.
