Description
There have been many books about arrang ing flowers and some have laid down rules and regulations to be followed, with emphasis on design, scale, balance, and harmony. No such rules are laboured here, because at the Flower School we encourage practical ex perience and personal taste. For instance, although much time and preparation should go into the selection of colours when arrang ing a group of flowers, the colour wheel should never be taken as the authority for colour combinations: flower arranging is an expression of your own sense of beauty. In this book I have tried just to be practical in my approach and pass on the tips which I have picked up over the years.
For instance, I found early on that it is wise to learn the correct names as you progress with flowers as these are universally under stood. I was asked to use 'honesty' in a decoration and did so, only to discover that what I knew as honesty (Lunaria biennis) was not the same plant as her Ladyship wanted, and I should have used wild clematis (Clematis vitalba)!
