Description
Meher Baba, the subject of this book, was born in Poona of Persian parents in 1894. He was educated at a Roman Catholic school in that city and matriculated at the Deccan College. At nineteen years of age he had a spiritual expe- rience which lasted for nine years, in the course of which he had five masters. He became a Perfect Master and gathered a number of disciples. At the age of thirty-one he became silent and two years later ceased to write, com- municating by means of an alphabet board, which, however, he gave up in 1954, continuing his silence. He declared himself to be God-Man. His work in India among the mad, lepers and the poor is remarkable, and though he said he was not a teacher his 'teaching' is of the highest spiritual significance. He travelled all over India and Pakistan, made three journeys round the world, and visited Europe and the United States many times, and Australia twice; but remained mainly in seclusion, even on his travels. He lived near a small village in the Deccan.
This book gives a full account of his life by one who knew him for more than thirty years and an attempt is made to explain what he means to East and West, and his relation to contemporary life.
