THE PRICE OF PEACE
had proved extremely high for Nimbulan and his wife Myrilandel-he, the soul-weary Battlemage forced to give up his own family in order to preserve the University of Magicians and the kingdom of Coronnan; she, a practitioner of a now forbidden form of magic, exiled from Coronnan without even a chance to tell Nimbulan of the child who would soon be born to them.
Nimbulan had hoped he would shortly be able to abandon his role as adviser to the king and Senior Magician and be reunited with Myri once again. But there were far too many enemies ready to bring both king and kingdom down, and, with the sudden desertion of the dragon nimbus, far too little magic to draw upon as well.
