The following is a personal document and will frustrate those who seek carefully researched theses on the status of women. It is written to stimulate women to thought and action within the framework of their Christian belief. Most of the material used in the book has been presented to women in groups, either in single session or in retreat situations. It has been my practice for a number of years to provide cards for questions to each group of women. The information on the cards was always anonymously written and therefore amazingly frank. It is primarily from the information on these cards that I have drawn the areas covered by this book. I feel a great sense of indebtedness to the many women who have in this way contributed to the inspiration for my book. I am grateful for the forbearance of my many women friends who have endured my constant barrage of questions about things personal. My only hope is that they will find what follows worth the embarrassment I have occasionally caused.
