This monograph is an attempt to make available to our countrymen a popular publication on the Papacy. The Papacy is an institution that makes news and rouses the interest of many in those countries where Christianity is sufficiently well-established. This work is intended to acquaint readers in India and the East with this 2000-year-old institution.

The purpose of the Papacy with particular reference to the modern world, the challenges it is facing since the second Vatican Council, the reforms it has initiated at various levels, the question of unity in the Church of Christ, the Church's attitude towards other religions of the world, the position of the laity in the Church, are some of the matters dealt with.
The last section describes the keen interest and the deep involvement of Papacy in world problems such as peace, justice, labour, poverty, war, disarmament and denial of human rights.
