Description

This is the story of the Phileo Group; of how it grew from an idea by Tong Kooi Ong, its founder, into one of the fastest growing and most innovative financial services groups in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, with profitability and cutting edge technology to boot. At its height, PhileoAllied Berhad was a RM2.49 billion (US$670 million) company by market capitalisation on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

Starting as a small stockbroker in Ipoh in 1991, Phileo had, within a few years, become an integrated financial services group renowned for its innovation, its creativity and for breaking many institutional barriers and traditions, PhileoAllied Bank was the first in Malaysia to introduce and integrate online banking and stockbroking. It pioneered many new products, which are imitated and commonly found today in the Malaysian banking scene.

This book contains interviews with senior management, staff, insiders and independent observers and analysts. It is thus the story of its founders. its people, and the corporate culture that built the Group - "The Phileo Spirit". Phileo is an old Greek word variant for "love" which is often translated as meaning "to treat affectionately or kindly, to welcome, befriend" and truly, the Phileo Group's success was based on its ability to benefit and reward its many customers and clients and thousands of consumers.

In 2001, as a result of mandated Malaysian merger policies, PhileoAllied Bank and PhileoAllied Securities were merged with another banking institution and the Phileo Group was dissolved.

This book is for bankers, financial services professionals, marketers, academics, consultants, students and those keen on understanding the makings of a successful corporation.
