Description
Dr Brunton, whose works are best-sellers in a dozen languages, was born in London in 1898.
During a successful career in journalism, he developed an interest in comparative religion, mysticism and philosophy. He has travelled extensively in the the Orient, living among yogis, mystics and holy men. He is one of the few students of the East who has the ability to illuminate his understanding for the reader.
The Quest of the Overself was first written in response to the demand for a really comprehensive survey of the art of meditation. In it Dr Brunton describes in the clearest terms the oriental method of psycho-spiritual self-analysis, and demonstrates how the reader may discover his 'inner self' by a combination of mental discipline and simple physical exercise. The finest and safest system of Indian Yoga provides the basis for his text, and half an hour each day devoted to the practices he explains should enable anyone who faithfully follows them to come into contact with his own divine spirit.
