Description
The story of ROYAL SELANGOR is no ordinary corporate history. Its humble beginnings and complicated evolution are closely entwined with Malaysia's remarkable social and economic transformation from British colonial days to the modern era.
The discovery of tin in Kuala Lumpur in the late 19th century spurred a rush of tin miners from China to the burgeoning mining town. In 1885 a young pewtersmith named Yong Koon sailed from the south- eastern Chinese port of Shantou to Malaya. His journey ultimately led to the founding of one of the best-known pewter companies in the world, Royal Selangor.
This is a record of the small family-run business that grew from modest beginnings in a shophouse; weathering family feuds, the trials and tribulations of two world wars and economic turmoil to become the world's largest pewter company and one of Malaysia's best-known international brands.
