Description
The day after Lord Ned's twenty-first, his friends were just beginning to make sense at tea-time. Fazed by the spectacular illuminations and'the din of New York's latest group (flown in for the occasion), by endless champagne, c*caine and her*in they had staggered into each other's beds by dawn.
In The Season Nicola, a jaded adolescent socialite sort-of-engaged to the Duke's younger son, describes Lord Ned's pursuit of kicks, abetted by 'Dr. Death' with his black bag full of goodies containing the sensations for ever greater 'ups' and cures for ever greater 'downs. Switch to Manhattan, where the story is taken up by Dan Riley, the cynical son of the US President. He covets Nicola and hates Lord Ned and will do anything to accomplish his downfall, smashing apartments... smashing lives.
The Season is a novel about the jeunesse dorรฉe, made much more beautiful by drugs, and the decline of their most gilded member even unto death.
