Description
As we near the end of the twentieth century many issues appear to threaten the very existence of civilisation on earth-
the escalating arms race and the shadow of a nuclear holocaust
the continuous destruction of plant and animal life and the planet's ecology the increasing vulnerability of human rights
the growth of authoritarian one-party states and military dictatorships the appalling level of starvation and malnutrition in the poor South the decreasing reliance on individuals and natural human resources through the technological revolution.
The purpose of this book is to consider the major issues facing us today and to encourage constructive and responsible Christian thought and action in the face of them. Christians, believing in the lordship of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Church to the world, should be the last people to turn helplessly aside from these problems. The extent to which they can confront them rigorously and honestly is in part a measure of the maturity of their faith.
