THE cult of the quiz has its devotees all over the world, radio and television having done much to enhance its popularity with mammoth prizes and publicity. Yet, in the main, the true quiz-lover wrestles with his self-imposed problems in private, not for gain or glory, but for the inner satisfaction of besting the compiler or of learning new facts. Thus he needs his mental pabulum in book form.

He will discover new puzzles and word games, and a section dedicated to the humorous aspect of brain teasing-in my opinion a much ignored theme in quiz setting, for surely a smile of pleasure at finding an elusive word is as rewarding as a smile of triumph.
I hope, too, that this book will appeal to those who are just beginning to feel the effects of the bite of the quiz-bug, for there are many types of puzzle from which to choose, and scores of catch questions and riddle rhymes to remember and pass on.
Something for all quiz fans has been my aim. If I have succeeded, I hope you may derive as much pleasure from solving the problems as I have from compiling them.
