Description
With 264 pages it offers glimpses of the continuing story of God's Divine Mercy and Redemption intersecting with the lives of ordinary men, women and children. It is brought alive through the congregation of spirited Redemptorist priests and brothers who arrived in Singapore in 1935 from Australia and established a foundation later known as the Vice-Province of Ipoh (Malaysia-Singapore).
Through text, photography and art, this is their story, work, love, loss and longing as it explores the missionary work of those first Redemptorists fathers and brothers that came to serve. Selflessly driven by their convictions of spreading the Gospels and by their concerns for God's most poor and abandoned, they have toiled in God's fields for the last 75 years. This is no ordinary Redemptorist presence but the spirit of St Alphonsus Liguori the rest of the Redemptorists saints and blesseds whose lives and spirituality continue to move and excite us towards lifting our hearts ceaselessly towards God. The Redemptorist heritage is not just forgotten dates and faraway places in Italy but the life of a great doctor of the church, confessor, saint and man who loved with such intensity, you can't help but love him back.
His spirit has to be rediscovered and relieved. In these pages, the Redemptorists share some rarely seen images from the life, times and places of their Holy Father St Alphonsus Liguori. It will hopefully set you on an unforgettable journey that will introduce you to new spiritual possibilities.
Their story was unconventionally made known through the Icon of the Mother of Perpetual Help that has over the last 60 years given an added dimension of Marian presence in their Church of St Alphonsus. Often referred to as the Novena Church the Blessed Virgin Mary has protected these sons of St Alponsus.
