Description
Understanding the Malaysian Workforce-Guidelines for Managers is a result of three years of research on Intercultural Management initiated by the Malaysian Institute of Management.
The book comprises twelve chapters covering various aspects of managing, with emphasis on how values and culture influence the behaviour of the Malaysian workforce. Malaysia. being a multi- ethnic society. is rich in its variety of culture, tradition and values. These unique values are carried over into the workplace and cannot be dismissed by managers. While Western management theories and practices have proven successful. they may not be culturally appropriate when applied in Malaysia. To be effective, they must be translated to align with the values and shared practices of the local workforce, especially in the area of people management. Thus, it is the purpose of this book to help managers be more aware of these values and to use them to build a synergistic, productive workforce.
