When the death of a Human being in the physical plane takes place, then the evolving consciousness of the concerned human being withdraws itself into a state of consciousness which precedes its rebirth back again in the physical world, commonly known as the process of reincarnation.
Ultimately during the death process, with the withdrawal of indwelling consciousness, leaves behind four empty shells which are composed of unconscious working automated elemental deva substance. During the incarnated life of a human being, he uses these four shells which are [1] the physical human body, [2] the ethereal double [pranic body], [3] the emotional or astral body, and lastly [4] the mental body. The physical body is composed of gross elemental devas of mineral, water and air kingdoms, while the other three bodies are composed of subtle elemental deva matter of the subtle planes, and these three subtle bodies correspond to the physical body incarnated upon the physical plane. During physical incarnation the evolving soul of a human being utilizes these four bodies as a vehicle for his evolving consciousness existing upon their own planes, which are composed of higher vibration frequencies corresponding to physical body. which is a vehicle for the evolving soul consciousness to be used upon the plane of physical incarnation.
